The Marshalltown Community School District will host a public meeting to share progress on the Reimagining Miller Middle School project and the Franklin Field upgrades on Monday, July 21.
The event will feature presentations by district officials, INVISION architects, and representatives from Boyd Jones, the project’s construction management firm. Attendees will receive a comprehensive update, view design renderings and construction photos, and hear about the next steps for both major initiatives.
The meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the B.A. Niblock – MCSD Orpheum Welcome Center.
“Our schools continue to benefit from the strong support of our community,” said Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte. “This meeting is a chance to show how that support is translating into meaningful improvements for our students, both inside the classroom and across our facilities. We look forward to sharing the latest updates with our community at the event.”
In November 2024, 68% of voters approved a $57 million general obligation bond to fund the transformation of Miller Middle School. The project aims to preserve the school’s historic architecture while incorporating modern design and sustainable features. When complete, the facility will offer flexible, engaging spaces that support innovative instruction and reflect the needs of the entire community.
Design work has continued to progress in recent months, and updated renderings will be shared at the event.
The meeting will also highlight construction efforts underway at Franklin Field, an estimated $6.85 million improvement project that complements the district’s investment in student experience and infrastructure. Items of the project include a concession stand, south and east retaining walls, upper and lower playgrounds, and the west parking lot.
Construction crews are now preparing for the next phase of work, which includes site grading and soil improvements, installation of utility services, and continued work on footings, retaining walls, and concrete pours. Additional improvements to the west parking lot are also scheduled in the coming weeks.
The B.A. Niblock – MCSD Orpheum Welcome Center is located at 220 E. Main St. in Marshalltown.
