Grossheim Receives Ascending Alumni Award from Minnesota State University, Mankato

The Marshalltown Community School District is proud to announce that Brooke Grossheim, principal of Rogers Elementary School, has been named the recipient of the Ascending Alumni Award from the Department of Educational Leadership at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The Ascending Alumni Award recognizes graduates who earned a degree, licensure, or certificate from the Department of Educational Leadership within the past seven years and who have distinguished themselves in their field by addressing racially predictable disparities and advancing equity. Alumni are nominated for their professional impact, leadership, and commitment to creating inclusive educational environments.

Grossheim was honored at the annual Leading Courageously for Racial Equity Conference in February, where both Ascending Alumni and Distinguished Alumni award recipients are recognized for their contributions to educational leadership.

Since stepping into her role at Rogers Elementary, Grossheim has demonstrated a strong commitment to student-centered leadership, relationship building, and academic excellence. Prior to becoming principal, she served in a variety of educational roles that strengthened her focus on collaboration, instructional leadership, and supporting both students and staff. Her leadership philosophy emphasizes high expectations, equitable practices, and fostering a positive school culture where every child feels seen, valued, and empowered to succeed.

“This recognition truly belongs to our entire school community,” said Grossheim. “The work we are doing together—grounded in equity, accountability, and genuine care for our students—is what makes moments like this possible. I am grateful for the dedication, professionalism, and commitment our staff demonstrates each day, and I feel fortunate to work alongside educators who truly believe in what every child can achieve.”

The Department of Educational Leadership at Minnesota State University, Mankato annually presents two alumni honors: the Ascending Alumni Award for recent graduates and the Distinguished Alumni Award for graduates whose degrees were earned more than seven years ago. Both awards recognize leaders who courageously address inequities and champion inclusive excellence in education.

The Marshalltown Community School District congratulates Principal Grossheim on this well-deserved recognition and celebrates her continued leadership in advancing equity and opportunity for all students at Rogers Elementary.
