Kaitlyn Yepez Ramirez

The Marshalltown Community School District offers high school students the opportunity to serve as Student School Board Representatives. These student leaders provide valuable perspectives and share updates on events and activities at Marshalltown High School. For the 2024-25 school year, the MCSD school board will hear from five representatives.

Kaitlyn Yepez Ramirez, a senior at Marshalltown High School, is one of the five representatives. Learn more about Kaitlyn and her Bobcat story by reading her responses to the following Q&A:

What activities are you a part of at MHS?

I am a captain of the Girls' Cross Country team and have been involved in other varsity sports, such as wrestling, track, and football cheer. I’m also in National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, Interact Club, and Health Careers Club.

What is your favorite subject and why?

Throughout my years, human studies have always piqued my interest. Whether it’s sociology or psychology, I enjoy learning the reasons why humans think the way they do about themselves and others.

What talent would you like to learn some day?

I would someday like to achieve my goal of completing twenty sit-ups in a row and run a half-marathon. I love running and fitness and hope to do them for as long as possible.

What has been your favorite school memory so far and why?

A favorite memory of mine is having the opportunity to participate in the ribbon cutting for the brand-new sports complex. Being able to have the community come together and celebrate was very meaningful because it showed the support students have at MHS when it comes to athletics.

What is the best piece of advice you have received so far?

Great advice that I use frequently is that rejection is redirection. Putting yourself in difficult situations and experiencing failure is a part of life and is a great way to learn. While rejection can hurt, it can lead us to greater opportunities and teach us to keep pushing forward no matter what.

What is your biggest dream or goal in life?

My dream is to be able to give back to my community when I am older. I have been blessed with many opportunities and want other students to be as successful as they can be. I want students to be proud of who they are and to know that they are capable of great things.

Who is your hero and why?

My mother has taught me resilience and dedication. She has taught me to never give up on a dream, even when it gets difficult. My mother is my hero because she has further made me value education's importance and that it's never too late to accomplish anything you set your mind to.

What are your plans for after high school?

I plan on continuing my education at a four-year university to study dietetics and nutrition in hopes of one day becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
