Why did you decide join the Marshalltown Community School District?
I decided to join the Marshalltown Community School District because I grew up here, and my experiences in the community shaped who I am today. While I had some wonderful teachers who made a positive impact on my life, I sometimes felt like I didn’t have anyone I could fully relate to or connect with on a personal level. This inspired me to return to Marshalltown and be the representation and support I felt was missing. My goal is to create a space where all students feel seen, valued, and understood, and to be someone they can truly connect with.
What do you enjoy most about being a member of the Bobcat community?
What I enjoy most about being part of the Bobcat community is the strong sense of unity and pride we share. There’s something special about being part of a team and community that truly cares for one another, whether it’s supporting students’ goals, celebrating achievements, or coming together during challenging times. I love being part of a place where everyone is dedicated to helping each other grow and succeed. The Bobcat community is more than just a school—it's like family, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.
What about your role at MCSD surprises you?
What surprises me most about my role as a School Resource Specialist at Marshalltown is how impactful small, everyday interactions can be. I came into this position knowing I wanted to support students, but I’m continually amazed by how much even a single conversation or a small act of encouragement can mean to them. I've realized that the trust and connections I build with students are powerful tools in helping them overcome challenges. It’s a reminder of how much positive influence we can have each day, often in ways we might not initially expect.
In your opinion, what makes Marshalltown Community School District special?
In my opinion, what makes the Marshalltown Community School District truly special is its diversity and resilience. Our district brings together students and families from a variety of cultural backgrounds, and this diversity enriches our community, fostering a learning environment that broadens perspectives and encourages empathy. Beyond that, there’s a remarkable resilience here. No matter what challenges we face, we come together with strength and determination to support each other and make sure every student has the opportunity to thrive. It’s inspiring to be part of a district that not only embraces diversity but also stands strong in the face of adversity.
What does it mean to you to be a Bobcat?
To me, being a Bobcat means being part of a family and a community that stands by one another. It means committing to the values of respect, resilience, and inclusivity that make Marshalltown such a special place. Being a Bobcat is about showing up for students, staff, and families with dedication and pride, celebrating each person’s unique strengths, and lifting each other up when challenges arise. I’m proud to be a Bobcat because it means I’m part of something larger than myself—an inspiring, supportive community that’s making a positive difference every day.
