The Marshalltown Community School District invites the public to a ribbon cutting and open house for the new Career & Technical Education (CTE) addition and science classroom upgrades at Marshalltown High School (MHS) on Thursday, Oct. 31.
The CTE addition includes an agriculture lab featuring greenhouse technology, a building trades construction shop, a commercial culinary arts lab, and other specialized spaces designed to enhance hands-on learning. This expansion is aimed at fostering real-world skills in fields such as industrial arts, agriculture, and family and consumer sciences.
In addition to the CTE expansion, the project includes the renovation of four science labs, as well as spaces for wood and metalworking, welding, and small engine repair. These upgrades provide modern, flexible learning environments that meet current industry standards, ensuring students are well-prepared for a variety of career paths. This reflects the district’s commitment to delivering state-of-the-art facilities that support high-quality education.
"These new CTE facilities and upgraded science classrooms will open doors for all MHS students," said Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte. "The enhanced spaces will provide hands-on, real-world learning experiences that are critical for preparing our students for future careers. Whether in agriculture, industrial arts, or family and consumer sciences, these improvements will strengthen our students' skills and expand their opportunities. Together, these additions will significantly enrich the educational environment at Marshalltown High School."
The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place in the industrial arts parking lot on the east side of the building at 4:30 p.m. Following the ceremony, from 4:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., community members are invited to tour the new industrial arts, agriculture, and family and consumer science classrooms.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information about the ribbon cutting or the project, please contact Dr. Theron Schutte at tschutte@marshalltown.k12.ia.us.
