The Marshalltown Community School District (MCSD) invites Bobcat families to the Black Box Theater for a screening of “Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age.”
This documentary explores the stories of families struggling over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Interwoven into these stories are cutting science and insights from thought leaders Peggy Orenstein, Sherry Turkle, Simon Sinek, as well leading brain scientists who present evidence on real changes in the brain when kids are on screens.
“Screenagers: Growing Up in The Digital Age” has been screened more than 8,000 times to 4 million people in more than 70 countries around the world. This is the first documentary to explore the impact of technology on kids and offer families proven solutions that work. What started out as a personal story for one has grown into a national movement, helping millions of teens and their families navigate growing up in a world with instant access to screens.
“Technology's influence in education, employment, and daily life prompts the familiar refrain of 'can't live with it; can't live without it.' Our goal in sharing this information with parents is to assist them in guiding their children toward a balanced use of technology, leveraging its benefits while mitigating its drawbacks, “ said Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte.
The screening will be held on Wednesday, April 3 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Black Box Theater, which is located at 220 E. Main Street in Marshalltown. This free event is for MCSD families and staff.
