Students on stage after being presented their cords Gold Honor Cords, signifying that a student maintained a GPA of 3.5 or higher, will be draped around the shoulders of several Bobcat graduates this Sunday. The Gold Honor Cords were one of several honors awarded to students at this week’s annual MHS Awards Night.

Dozens of Marshalltown High School students were celebrated this week at the school’s annual Awards Night.

Awards included Seal of Biliteracy honors, Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) recognitions, Silver and Gold cord awards, and thousands of dollars in post-secondary scholarships, among other accolades. In all, 43 students earned scholarships – the one-year award total came to more than $300,000, and the four-year total came to $944,000.

The Mentors in Violence Prevention program acts not only as a way to reduce and stop bullying, but also as a way for older students to guide freshmen through their first year in high school. Many Bobcats were recognized for their work in MVP Thursday.

MCSD is proud to have dozens of languages spoken among our student body! To help celebrate and recognize students’ linguistic skills and study, the District awards Seal of Biliteracy medals to graduating students who are considered “biliterate” in two or more languages.
