The Marshalltown Community School District (MCSD) is pleased to announce the hiring of Chelsey Plants as the new principal of Fisher Elementary School. Plants brings nearly 17 years of experience in elementary education and is set to begin her role on July 1, 2025.
Plants most recently served as the elementary principal at Collins-Maxwell, following over a decade of classroom experience. She previously taught for six years at Clear Creek Amana and nine years at Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom (BGM). Her strong background in early childhood education and leadership will be an asset to the Fisher community.
“I am excited and honored to be joining the Bobcat family,” said Plants. “Elementary school is such a foundational time in a child’s life, and I feel honored to help create a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment where every student can thrive.”
Plants is a graduate of St. Ambrose University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education. She later received her graduate degree in Educational Leadership from Drake University.
In her new role, Plants is committed to fostering a collaborative culture and continuing the strong work already underway at Fisher.
“My top goal is to ensure that every student feels safe, valued, and supported every day,” Plants said. “I want our school to be a place where high-quality instruction, inclusive practices, and strong relationships help every child reach their full potential.”
Plants and her husband Craig, who owns an insulation business, have two children—McCoy and Marilee.
Please join MCSD in welcoming Plants to Fisher Elementary School as the new principal.
