STORY CITY — The Marshalltown volleyball team broke even Monday at the Roland-Story Tournament, winning twice and losing twice against non-conference competition.

The Bobcats (10-14) played four straight-set matches, losing to Gilbert (21-13, 21-10) and host Roland-Story (21-9, 21-15) while defeating Hampton-Dumont-CAL (21-17, 21-11) and South Hardin (21-16, 21-14).

The Bobcats were led offensively by Harper Wilson with 16 kills. Kinsley Bowie added 12 kills, while Bella Avise and Lauren O’Neal contributed nine kills apiece. Broooklyn Smith chipped in six kills, Lorelai Villarreal had three kills, and O’Neal finished with 44 assists on the night.

Gianna Baune and Avise led the MHS defense with 20 digs, while Bowie (15) and O’Neal (14) also pitched in.

Baune was 20-for-23 serving with a team-high four aces. O’Neal served 18-for-24 with three aces, while Avise was 21-of-23 with an ace. Wilson went 18-for-20 with an ace, Bowie was 17-for-20 with three aces, and Smith was 15-of-17 with an ace.
