GRINNELL — The Marshalltown softball team managed just two hits in a 9-1 loss at Class 4A No. 11 Grinnell on Friday night.
Both hits came in the same inning for the Bobcats (10-11), leading to the team’s lone run in the six-inning contest. Kendall Brummel led off the top of the third with a bunt single and scored one out later. Gianna Baune moved her over with a sacrifice bunt, Abby Janssen walked, and Laney Danielson’s infield single scored Brummel.
Grinnell pitcher Rylie Imhoff got out of the jam and limited the damage the rest of the way. Imhoff finished with five walks and 11 strikeouts for the win.
Hanna Osgood took the loss for the MHS pitching staff, allowing four earned runs on six hits and three walks over three innings, striking out one. Briley Danielson pitched 2 2/3 innings before Grinnell (19-3) reached the run-rule, giving up four runs — three earned — on three hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Kylee Bond went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs to lead the Tigers offensively.
